Titre Testing for Dogs at laburnum kennels

Successful Day Titre Testing for Dogs At The Kennels

We had a good but extremely busy day yesterday, we had these guys out to do some titer testing, it was a brilliant service by the lovely vet Emma and Sarah from Home Comforts Veterinary Services. Out of all the dogs that came for testing and were due their vaccinations, only 2 dogs actually needed to have their boosters, all of the other dogs tested were fine.

Titre testing for dogs checks distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus antibody levels. Unfortunately the test does not cover Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough, as these aren’t available for testing as yet!

We will definitely be having them out again before the end of the year, so if you are interested please drop us message and we will contact you when they are with us again.

We had a successful day at Laburnum Kennels titre testing last week, with 24 dogs seen and only 4 needing a booster vaccination 🙂 We hold titre testing days regularly but can also run the test during a routine clinic appointment.

What are titer tests for dogs?

Titer tests are among the tools that dog owners and veterinarians can use to help minimize the risks of both infectious diseases and unnecessary vaccinations. A titer test is an antibody blood test that can tell you if a previous vaccine is still protecting your dog’s immune system.

Titre testing can be used to determine the effectiveness of a vaccine or the presence of any natural immunity towards disease. Your pet needs antibodies against individual diseases to enable their body to attack the pathogen (disease) and remove it from their system. Therefore the presence of antibodies to a particular illness may suggest that your pet is immune to that illness.
